Field of view

Also known as fov · field of vision · viewing angle

The extent of the scene visible at one moment, measured in degrees, whether through a headset, a camera lens or the naked eye.

Human vision covers roughly 200° horizontally, while most consumer VR headsets show somewhere around 90° to 120°, giving a slightly boxed-in view. Manufacturers quote horizontal, vertical or diagonal figures, so specifications are not always directly comparable.

In 360° content the learner only sees part of the scene at a time, so action or a hotspot behind them can be missed. Good scenario design places key moments in the expected line of sight, or uses sound and movement to draw attention.
