Monoscopic 360°

Also known as mono 360 · monoscopic 360 · monoscopic video

360° content that shows the same image to both eyes, so the scene surrounds the viewer but has no stereoscopic depth.

Most consumer 360° cameras, including common dual-lens models, capture monoscopic footage. Perspective, scale and shading still suggest depth, but near and far objects are not separated by the slight difference between each eye's view that stereoscopic content provides.

Monoscopic files are simpler to capture and stitch, smaller than stereoscopic equivalents, and look the same on a phone, in a browser or in a headset. For most training scenes, where the learner looks around a room rather than judging distances, it is the practical default.
