Standalone headset
Also known as all-in-one headset · standalone vr headset · untethered headset
A VR headset with its own processor, battery, displays and tracking built in, so it runs without a computer, phone or cables.
Standalone headsets track the head and controllers with cameras on the headset itself, and install apps or open web content directly. They are cheaper and easier to deploy than tethered setups, at the cost of less graphics power and a battery that limits long sessions.
They are the usual choice for training because they can be handed out and set up in any room. The Meta Quest and Pico headsets that Node XR lists among its supported devices are standalone designs.
