Does immersive simulation replace manikin training?

Being precise about this matters, because simulation leads have heard the overclaimed version before.

What does immersive simulation do well?

It handles the repeatable parts of clinical rehearsal. That includes recognising a deteriorating patient, walking an escalation pathway, running an assessment sequence in order, finding equipment in an unfamiliar room and rehearsing a difficult conversation. It scales to a whole cohort without adding faculty hours, can be repeated as often as a learner wants and records what each person did.

What can it not do?

It cannot teach anything that needs hands. Node XR is a no-code 360° and hotspot platform with branching and scoring. It is not hand-tracked, physics-based or haptic simulation, so manikin work and supervised practice stay where they are.

How do the two fit together?

Immersive scenarios take the predictable half of a scenario out of the sim suite. Learners rehearse that half on their own, as often as they like, which frees the suite and faculty time for the half that needs a person in the room.
