Competency assessment

Also known as competence assessment · assessment of competence

Competency assessment judges whether a person can perform a defined task or role to the required standard, not just what they know.

It draws on evidence of performance, such as direct observation, simulation, work products and professional discussion, judged against a competency framework. Health, social care, engineering and apprenticeship standards all rely on it, and the outcome is often competent or not yet competent rather than a percentage.

Simulation lets assessors see decisions that are rare or unsafe to stage in real practice. In Node XR, every learner decision is recorded against a competency map you define.
