We already own VR headsets that are not being used. Can Node XR run on them?
An idle headset cupboard is almost always a content and ownership problem rather than a hardware one.
What to check first
Count working units, charge state, strap and facial interface condition, OS version and which accounts they are tied to. Perished face pads are a consumables problem, not a write-off.
Why they stopped being used
Jisc's extended reality in learning and teaching report for 2023/24 found resourcing, lack of specialist staff and accessibility as the lead barriers. In further education, roughly half of respondents reported little or no use of kit they already owned.
What to do about it
Build one assessed scenario with the tutor who teaches that topic, publish it browser-first so the whole cohort can do it immediately, and book headsets for the sessions where presence is the point. It is the same build either way, so adding a device tier later is a publishing decision.
