Meta is closing its business VR programme. What does that mean for our headsets?
This changes procurement rather than teaching. Browser-delivered content is unaffected, because it does not depend on a device programme at all.
What Meta announced
Commercial Quest SKUs stopped being sold and no new Horizon Managed Services customers were accepted from 20 February 2026, with existing subscriptions moving to no charge. The programme closes on 4 January 2030, after which the software is no longer supported.
The service had cost $15 per headset per month in individual mode and $24 in shared mode, covering bulk setup, remote app deployment and MDM integration.
What to do instead
Use your institution's existing mobile device management for enrolment, updates and wiping, set kiosk mode so a headset returns to the scenario rather than a home screen between learners, keep a local hygiene and charging routine, and make sure your content runs in the headset browser so it does not depend on a store or a managed app channel.
