High-fidelity simulation
Also known as high fidelity simulation · hi-fi simulation · high-fidelity manikin
Simulation that closely reproduces a real clinical situation, typically with a computer-controlled manikin, realistic equipment and environment, and a scenario that responds to the learner's actions.
Fidelity has several dimensions, including physical, environmental and psychological, and a simulation can be high in one and low in another. High-fidelity sessions are resource-intensive, usually needing a simulation suite, trained faculty and a technician, so programmes tend to reserve them for objectives that need that realism.
Research on immersive learning points at fit and design rather than fidelity or hardware. Node XR is a 360° and hotspot platform, not hand-tracked, physics-based or haptic simulation, so it complements this kind of session rather than replacing it.
