Clinical skills lab

Also known as skills lab · clinical skills suite · clinical skills centre · simulation suite

A teaching space equipped to resemble clinical settings, with beds, equipment, manikins and task trainers, where students practise procedures and assessments before and alongside placements.

Skills labs are found in universities, colleges and hospital education centres. Many sit alongside a simulation suite with a control room and audiovisual recording for debriefing, and they are where most hands-on practice with manikins takes place.

Immersive scenarios work around the lab rather than replacing it. Node XR's guidance is explicit that it is not a replacement for a clinical skills lab, though a lab can be filmed in 360° to create a scenario.
