LRS (learning record store)

Also known as learning record store · learning record stores

A learning record store (LRS) is the system that receives, stores and returns xAPI statements about learning activity, as defined in the xAPI specification.

Each xAPI statement records an actor, a verb and an object, such as a learner completing a scenario, and is sent to the LRS over HTTP. An LRS can be a standalone product or built into an LMS, and other tools can query it to build reports or feed a data warehouse.

You need one when you want more than completion data. Node XR's guidance for universities notes that attempt data exports through xAPI into your learning record store, alongside the gradebook.
