Further education (FE)
Also known as further education college · fe college · post-16 education
Study after secondary school that is not part of a degree, including vocational courses, apprenticeships, A levels and adult skills, delivered mainly by colleges and training providers.
In England, FE providers include general FE colleges, sixth form colleges, independent training providers and adult community learning services, and they are inspected by Ofsted. In Wales, colleges and work-based learning providers are inspected by Estyn.
Much FE is vocational, and learners often need to know a workplace before they can safely work in it. Node XR's FE page describes dropping apprentices and FE learners into the salon, the site or the workshop before they step onto one in real life.
